The founding of the Mission at Lac Ste Anne was the beginning of the long relationship of Indigenous and Métis peoples with Catholicism in what is now called Treaty Six territory.

Lac Ste Anne has long been revered as a place of sacred significance, and people travel from great distances to join together for an experience of healing, faith, and reconciliation.

Around the world and in all times, grandmothers are revered in all cultures, and especially in indigenous culture. The lake’s namesake, Ste Anne, was the mother of Mary and the grandmother of Jesus.

Blessed Ste Anne, you were especially favored by God to be the mother of the most holy Virgin Mary, the Mother of our Savior. By your power with your most pure daughter and with her divine Son, kindly obtain for us the grace and the favor we now seek. Please secure for us also forgiveness of our past sins, the strength to perform faithfully our daily duties and the help we need to persevere in the love of Jesus and Mary. Amen.
